Project Northern Waters is a founder-led initiative to develop Canada's first purpose-built deep-water training, research and innovation facility.
What Project Northern Waters Is
Deep pools are not just for divers. They are controlled environments where first responders train safely, where researchers and engineers validate instruments before they go into open water, and where underwater technology is tested without weather, ice or seasonal access windows getting in the way.
Countries across Europe, Asia and the Middle East already operate purpose-built deep-water facilities. Canada does not. Project Northern Waters exists to close that gap.

The Facility
A purpose-built deep-water environment offers consistent depth, visibility and stability that natural water systems cannot provide, managed as an efficient, sustainable system.
Stable depth, clarity, temperature and flow allow training, testing and research to be repeated safely and precisely, year round.
Continuous monitoring of water quality, energy and treatment performance makes the facility a live platform for validation and applied research.
Advanced filtration, water recovery and closed-loop heat integration reduce discharge, chemical demand and emissions from the outset.
Proof Of Concept
The national facility is the destination. Ahead of it, Tidal Flow Systems Inc. is developing a smaller proof-of-concept deep pool, a training and equipment-evaluation facility that can be built and opened on a near-term timeline.
A working facility is the strongest foundation for the national vision. It proves the operating model in the real world, and it gives professional users a controlled deep-water environment in Canada while the larger project advances.

Visiting and studying the world's leading deep-water facilities to learn what worked, what challenges they faced, and how to avoid costly mistakes.
Currently ActivePhase II
Creating the blueprint for a Canadian facility, carrying the findings of Phase I into a deliberately right-sized, future-ready design.
Phase III
Bringing the vision to life in Canada: a facility serving public safety, research, industry, education and the community.
Recent progress includes early-stage engagement with public-sector, institutional and industry stakeholders, and completed reference visits to leading deep-water facilities abroad.
